History Of Food Department

The Food Department AJ&K/GB was commonly known as “CIVIL SUPPLIES & TRANSPORT
Department” till 1975 which was entrusted along responsibilities of supplying and distribution of
commodities to the people under the administration of M/O Kashmir Affairs and Northern
Affairs Division GoP. In 1976 two separate Departments of Food has been created for AJ&K & Gilgit Baltistan
(Northern Areas). Directorate Of Food AJ&Amp;K Was Established In Rawalpindi.

Functions of Food Department

Procurement food items as wheat and sugar etc
Distribution of Wheat and Atta and essential commodities specified by government for this purpose
Control over prices and supervision of Ration Depots and markets
Sanction and control of Flour Mills
Purchase of stores and capital good for the Department
Services matters except those entrusted to Services and General Administration Department
